One Day at a Time Mood Tracker Journal – Book Review

by Jo Marchburn

I was so excited to get a copy of this mood tracker journal for review because I LOVE journaling, and any books related to mental health and emotional wellness. My journal came this week and I am obsessed with it!

There are so many good things to say, but let me start with some basics and explain what it’s used for.

One Day at a Time Mood Tracker Journal is a daily self-care tracker for mental health and emotional wellness. It has great features like:

  • Quick daily check-ins you can complete in just a few minutes, plus space to write whenever you feel like it
  • Track sleep, hydration, medication, and mood
  • Reflect monthly to notice patterns and celebrate progress
  • Gentle affirmations to guide you toward self-kindness

On an already demanding day, keeping track of your mental health can seem like just one more tiresome chore. Compassion takes the place of pressure in the One Day at a Time Mood Tracker Journal. Affirmations and soothing patterns meet you as soon as you open it, whispering rather than shouting: “Take it one step at a time—you’re doing enough.”

It’s also very beautifully formatted. It’s aesthetically pleasing but also practically formatted, making it easier to use so you will want to stick with it for days, weeks, and even months.

There is more to this than a blank notepad with boxes to check. The journal’s well-considered layout encourages you to take a moment without passing judgment. Every daily check-in is brief but impactful – emojis for your mood, energy, sleep, hydration, thankfulness, and a positive self-intention. Since it’s undated, you won’t feel guilty if you skip a day – or a week. It meets you where you are instead. And you can jump right back in whenever you are ready, with no wasted pages!

The reflections each month are a silent revelation. You begin to notice trends as you go back through your notes: when tension peaks, when thankfulness increases, and when that new behavior finally becomes ingrained. For individuals undergoing treatment or dealing with anxiety, despair, or burnout, these photos serve as useful resources for self-awareness and dialogue.

Marchburn gently reminds us that mental wellness isn’t about perfection with her affirmations throughout the pages. They support minor accomplishments like taking medication, drinking water, or just getting through a difficult day. The full-color pages feel deliberate rather than cluttered, and the 6×9 size makes it small enough to fit in a backpack or bedside drawer. It’s the same size as my favorite journals, so I like using them together.

This journal’s humanity is what makes it so great. It doesn’t need you to change all at once. Feel what you feel, it reads. Develop at your own speed. This is a welcome change for those who have previously felt overburdened by mood tracking—a straightforward, encouraging environment to reestablish a connection with oneself.

The One Day at a Time Mood Tracker Journal is a lovely option if you’re searching for a wellness tool that strikes a balance between kindness and structure, or if you need to give a friend a considerate present they can actually use. It demonstrates how realistic, encouraging, and stress-free mental health support can be. Take one page, one mood, and one loving intention at a time to start your self-care journey today.

It’s five stars from me! I can’t wait to fill this up, and probably get another one so I can continue using it.
