“Time Twins” by Lori Kauldrin – Book Review
I received a review copy of Time Twins by Lori Kauldrin and I absolutely loved this book! I love books with time travel themes and this one sounded like a lot of fun, but I loved it even more than I thought I would.
The book is dedicated to the *real* Meir Leib Shulman, a boy with a huge imagination and an even bigger heart.
From the start, I was drawn in by the fun doodles on the page and the diary-style writing. I love these types of stories, and they’re super fun for Middle Grade books (that’s why Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of my favorite middle grade series). Let’s take a look at an overview of the book and its plot.
The fascinating science fiction story “Time Twins” by Lori Kauldrin is ideal for middle-grade readers between the ages of 8 and 12. The narrative centers on Meir Leib, a resourceful and driven man who is sick of being the only member of his family without a twin.
He finds a time machine while trying to figure out this “problem,” so he decides to take matters into his own hands by turning into his own twin. Naturally, things don’t go as planned, and before long, he discovers himself trapped in a humorous time loop with surprising turns.
From the first page and beyond, we are drawn in by the writing style, which is conversational and engaging, making the book easy to read and pleasant. The book’s quirky doodling throughout adds to the pleasure, making it aesthetically pleasing and ideal for children who enjoy a mix of images and narrative. Readers are kept interested in the plot by Meir Leib’s eccentric demeanor, which keeps things interesting and unpredictable. There are several instances when the audience will laugh out loud due to his antics and the creative plot, while the underlying themes of family and identity provide depth.
One of my favorite parts of “Time Twins” is how it humorously and thought-provokingly offers a typical childhood desire—that of having a sister or twin—a sci-fi twist. Young readers will find the time travel aspects engaging and approachable, and the story’s surprising conclusion will stick with them. This is also a fun book for parents to read along with their children. It would make for a great bedtime story, inspiring fun and quirky dreams each night.
To sum it up, “Time Twins” is a sweet, skillfully written time travel narrative with lots of heart. For children who like humor, science fiction, and suspenseful tales, this is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend!
