Dragon and Mr. Sneeze: Witches of the Horseshoe Book 3

Blue Skeleton skillfully brings an already gripping series to a thrilling close with Dragon and Mr. Sneeze: Witches of the Horseshoe Book 3, drawing readers right back into the turbulent world of Famka, a young witch whose journey through time is both heart-wrenching and thrilling. This is book three in a teen and YA coming of age fantasy series that I have been enjoying reading. it has some of my favorite things – witches, time travel, and the bond of friendship.

Blue Skeleton expertly handles the complicated trope of time travel, making it approachable and exciting while retaining all of the inherent challenges and contradictions that come with time manipulation. Famka’s power to travel across time is more than a plot device; it is a deeply emotional trip that requires her to confront the ghosts of her past and the dangers lying in the shadows of history. One of the most prominent aspects of this novel is its sophisticated use of time travel in the story. I love how it’s all woven together perfectly and I never got lost or confused about what time we were in.

Famka’s character development is truly a highlight. Her quest to save her closest friend, Ophelia, from a horrible conclusion, even at the cost of her own life, is both admirable and empathetic. The emotional weight of her journey is palpable as she navigates time’s perilous waters in search of the truth about her parents and the terrible forces that have tormented her. Her strength and resilience come through, creating her a figure that readers of all ages will root for.

This series’ world-building is nothing short of outstanding. The combination of magical realism and elements from the deep South’s mythology and folktales results in a distinct and immersive world that stands out in the fantasy genre. The introduction of new races and animals, as well as the rich, atmospheric descriptions, deepen the plot. We are transported into the vivid and mystical world that Blue Skeleton has created. I, for one, wanted to just stay there forever.

What makes this novel stand out is its ability to mix action and introspection. As Famka revisits events from her past with new eyes, readers are invited to consider topics such as trust, betrayal, friendship, and the moral quandaries that come with power. The stakes are high, and the tension is palpable as Famka realizes that the greatest time traveler of all time may not be the savior she is looking for.

Dragon and Mr. Sneeze is an appropriate end to the Witches of the Horseshoe series (at least for now). It ties up loose ends while leaving just enough room for readers to anticipate future adventures in Famka’s world. For those who have followed Famka’s journey from the beginning, this book is a delightful and enjoyable read that delivers on every promise. It’s also a compelling reason for new readers to start reading the series right away.

Whether you’re a young adult or simply young at heart, this book, like the entire series, delivers a rich and nuanced story that’s as informative as it is enjoyable. I absolutely love this latest installment and can’t wait for the next book from this author.
