Shattered Past (My Poison Jewel Series Book 9) – Book Review

by James Boston

With the ninth entry in the My Poison Jewel Series, Shattered Past, James Boston once again dazzles. Following Dysnomia’s amazing trip through the earlier books, this one takes a somewhat different but no less impactful turn. Boston gives viewers a much-needed look into Husky’s story by shedding light on the hazy fiance who once saved her life rather than just Dysnomia.

Even Dysnomia is facing some of her most difficult challenges to date. She feels depressed, uninspired, and stuck in a downward spiral. She is relatable because of these feelings, which also draw attention to the very real struggles that many people endure in silence. However, Boston’s reminder that even those who seem strong – the rescuers, the supporting cast, the friends – carry their own problems is what really sets this book apart. The backstory of Husky, a figure that has long been a favorite among fans, is both tragic and inspirational.

The balance in this book is among my favorite aspects of it. Husky’s past develops in a way that enhances Dysnomia’s journey as she battles her inner demons. When taken as a whole, their hardships highlight the value of empathy, resiliency, and keeping in mind that everyone has scars – both apparent and invisible. Boston’s language captivates you from the first page and masterfully conveys that sense of emotional weight.

Readers can fully experience Dysnomia’s feelings because to the book’s fluid and thoughtful pacing, which also transports them to Husky’s complex background. With the distinctive magical qualities that keep this series so engrossing, the world-building remains rich and atmospheric. As again, Shattered Past is a noteworthy and deserving addition to the story because of the author’s ability to skillfully combine action with genuine emotion.

If you have been following the narrative of Dysnomia from the start, this book is like a present to you. It reminds us why we initially fell in love with these characters and expands the My Poison Jewel Series’ mythology. For me, the highlight of this episode was Husky’s moment in the spotlight.

Final Thoughts:
The series continues with the exquisitely written and emotionally compelling Shattered Past. It demonstrates that James Boston still has interesting stories to tell after writing nine volumes. If you’ve followed Dysnomia thus far, you won’t want to miss this next phase of her journey – and Husky’s as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended for fans of character-driven fantasy and anyone who believes that even heroes carry shattered pieces of their past.
