Stellarlands – Book Review

by Max Ferrada (Author) , Ben Worrell (Illustrator)
Stellarlands is the comic series you didn’t realize you needed! If you’ve ever wanted a plot that blends the complex storytelling of a prestige TV show with the high-stakes drama of a superhero saga, then you’ve come to the right place. I was so excited to get the opportunity to read review copies of this comic – the first and second issues. And now I can’t wait to tell you more about them!
This two-part (so far!) series, written by the gifted team of Max Ferrada (author) and Ben Worrell (artist), is an engrossing journey into a world on the verge of anarchy where every character and decision counts.
“Invasion is imminent. Hostile forces have taken over a remote moon and are in the midst of uncovering a secret base that holds the key to a delicate intergalactic alliance. It is up to Anvil Liza to thwart the enemy’s plans and in the process maintain the balance in the known universe.”
Stellarlands #1 (Released November 1, 2023)
Stellarlands #1 immerses readers in a universe full of mystery and suspense from the first page. A distant moon has been overrun by hostile troops, who have discovered a covert outpost that might either strengthen or weaken a tenuous intergalactic alliance. The heroes of Stellarlands must step in and bring everything back into balance, which is a difficult but necessary duty.
Ferrada’s writing is incredibly incisive, creating a complex story that feels both vast and intensely intimate. The motivations of each character are carefully examined, which deepens the drama as it develops. The plot is further elevated by Worrell’s artwork, which skillfully captures both private moments and amazing space conflicts. The color scheme, which combines vivid hues with striking contrasts, embodies the combination of danger and beauty that characterizes the Stellarlands universe.
The art is fantastic, draws you right in, and keeps you turning the page to see what happens next. I also really love the characters. They’re all fun and there is just the right amount of humor thrown into the dialogue. I laughed so hard about the “space beer”. But I really love the main character. She’s witty, strong, hilarious and beautiful.
I immediately moved on from issue #1 to issue #2 because I was so excited to continue.

Stellarlands #2 (Released December 26, 2024)
The stakes are raised in the second installment between Ferrada and Worrell. The moon Upentia in the desert has become a crucial battlefield as war breaks out throughout the universe. At this point, the show turns its attention to the human soldiers on Upentia and their tense interactions with the local populace. There is a noticeable tension between the inhabitants and the invaders, which is heightened when a soldier and a native develop a forbidden romance.
This chapter explores themes of sacrifice, love, and devotion before leading to a choice that will make readers reevaluate their own ideas of right and evil. Ferrada’s vivid narrative is ideally complemented by Worrell’s captivating images of the parched landscapes and busy settlements of Upentia. When combined, they produce a story that is both aesthetically spectacular and emotionally stirring.
It has me hooked and I can’t wait for more to be available. Also, if you’re reading this post, I really need someone to read these so I have someone to yap about them to!
Why Stellarlands Deserves a Spot on Your Shelf
Stellarlands stands out for its ability to strike a balance between personal, character-driven narratives and epic, universe-spanning conflicts. The series doesn’t hold back when posing significant queries like identity, morality, and the price of war. While viewers who enjoy the complex world-building of shows like The Wire will be enthralled by its multi-layered plotlines, fans of Invincible will value its superhero-like intensity.
Stellarlands is a must-read for both comic book and science fiction aficionados because of Ferrada’s ambitious storyline and Worrell’s creative genius. This series offers on all fronts, whether you’re interested in the complex character arcs or the action-packed space combat.

It’s evidence of what occurs when artists put their all into their creations. With its captivating plots and stunning graphics, Stellarlands deserves recognition. I can’t wait to read more!
