Stephen Byrd – Author Spotlight
I’m very happy to introduce you to Stephen Byrd, author of Inner Demons. And I had the pleasure of asking him a few questions to help us all learn more about him and his writing.
In 2021, Byrd began working on his first novel, Silverwood Manor. Fascinated by the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s Rose Red, he loved the idea of a story featuring a haunted house. Wanting to experiment with different genres, he next released When Crazy Loves You, loosely basing the antagonist of the story on a woman his best friend dated. His most popular book to date, Inner Demons is a tale of a fictional paramedic struggling with mental health issues. Byrd drew from his own experiences as a paramedic in creating the story. In 2025, he released Blood Eagle, the first in a series of stories set to feature the fictional detective character Grant Bell and his sassy sidekick, JJ.
What Do You Love Most About Writing?
I think, for me, it’s a form of stress relief. It’s a way of expressing myself, and letting go of the trauma and the things that I see in my day job (I’m a paramedic, by the way, in my full-time job.) Writing is a form of therapy for me. It’s something that I enjoy, and it helps me to relax and unwind.
What Do You Think Readers Will Love About Your Books?
You never know what to expect. I mean, my first novel was a supernatural thriller, followed by a romance thriller, followed by… I don’t know what the hell “Inner Demons” was. It’s classified as a drama, but I think it really defies classification. But back to the question, my imagination is pretty wild. There’s no telling what I’m going to come up with next. I surprise myself sometimes.
Are You Currently Working On Any New Books Or Writing Projects?
Oh, absolutely. I’ve just finished “Dissenting Opinion”, my first political/legal drama, and I’m working on plans for a psychological thriller. And I’m always writing short stories, which I post on my blog at www.stephenbyrd.net (A little shameless advertising for myself.)

Do You Have A Favorite Book Or Author?
Whew! That’s a tough one. I can’t say that I have a singular favorite. I love Aaron Sorkin’s writing and character development. I am a huge fan of Dan Brown, Stephen King, James Patterson and John Grisham. But I think one of my favorite books has always been “April Morning” by Howard Fast. We read it in high school, and I have re-read it many times over the years. Still a favorite.
