Allen Lyle – Author Spotlight

Today I am happy to introduce you to author Allen Lyle. Allen is the author of Red Sun Rising, a highly anticipated sci-fi fantasy novel.
Allen considers himself lifelong devotee of science fiction and fantasy, He has always been drawn to the intersection of history and the speculative—asking questions like, “What if the Byzantine Empire had rockets?” or “What if Tolkien’s world had pirates?”
An avid gamer, Allen has spent countless hours orchestrating dynastic dramas in Crusader Kings III, an inspiration for his debut novel. His fascination with history extends beyond pixels and pages—he’s an enthusiastic collector of antiques, a lover of travel, and a devoted fan of minor league baseball. When he’s not writing, Allen can be found painting miniatures or reading. His debut novel takes readers thousands of years into a post-apocalyptic future where the kings and queens of Europe—now called Yuropa—rule once more. It’s sure to hit the sweet spot for fantasy, scifi, and history lovers alike…just like Allen.
What do you love most about writing?
The second draft is by far my favorite. The first draft I’m just focused on getting words on paper, grinding through each chapter. After that a lot of very smart and talented people give me notes and I am able to focus on the book and the story I am trying to convey. It feels like it really comes alive in that stage.
What do you think readers will love about your books?
A few things I hope! I like to think I have a few strengths although time will tell on that. I was really focused on the world building writing this book. It draws from all of my interests in both fantasy and science fiction quite heavily and I mixed them all together into what is hopefully a compelling setting. It also has some easter eggs for any history buffs, a lot of what I wrote is based on real history, specifically post Charlemagne Europe and the Byzantine Empire. Lastly, it was my goal to write interesting and complex characters, each with motivations that make sense to them. I hope readers enjoy them!
Are you currently working on any new books or writing projects?
I have just finished the rough draft of the second book, excited to see how that develops! I am focused on completing the first trilogy and we expect there to be six books in total. I have a lot of other ideas swirling around for other books but we are taking it one at a time!

I do! If anyone is interested in my upcoming projects they can visit allenlyleauthor.com to learn more.
Do you have a favorite book or author?
Of course! It is hard to choose but my favorite book(s) of all time is the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Symmons. I think it should be read by everyone with an interest in science fiction and there is nothing else like it. I got into sci-fi/fantasy at a young age and have very fond memories of reading Dan Abnett, Octavia Butler, and of course Tolkein. Recently I have been very into China Mieville, Jeff Van Der Meer, and Arkady Martine.
