Through My Eyes: Mental Health Awareness – Book Review
by Bianca Sharp
I’m a big fan of modern poetry, so I was very excited to get a review copy of this collection, Through My Eyes, and I’m happy to tell you all about it. This is a book about mental health and it’s important to heed the content warning going in, since many difficult topics are discussed in great detail.
Bianca Sharp takes readers on a personal, unvarnished journey through the hardships and victories of dealing with mental health issues in Through My Eyes: Mental Health Awareness. Anyone who has experienced comparable struggles or has tried to comprehend the depths of mental illness will find great resonance in this moving collection of poems, which is both honest and illuminating.
It starts with a warning: This book contains deep and dark poetry that may be triggering!
Next, we have a forward that explains why the author chose to write this book, along with why she struggled with it, at times. That she wrote it on her worst days, when she no longer felt very much in control of herself anymore. And she hopes that it will help others – either others who are going through similar things, or friends or family of someone who is going through it.
Sharp’s pain is evident from the opening page – the first poem talking about how she wants to help people but fears it will cause some harm. Her experiences are captured in each poem, which depicts the suffering caused by inner demons and the fortitude needed to overcome them. These poems, which were written at some of the most difficult times in her life, demonstrate her bravery and tenacity. The outcome is a corpus of work that is incredibly motivating and ethereally lovely.
Sharp’s ability to express the unexplainable is among this collection’s most remarkable features. She turns emotions of optimism, sadness, and self-discovery into something concrete with her expressive words and striking imagery. You will experience the highs and lows of her journey as if you are walking with her. The book is a potent instrument for empathy and understanding – as the reader, you form a strong bond with the author through reading her words.
With Through My Eyes, Sharp aims to give comfort and support to people dealing with their own mental health issues as well as insight to those who want to help loved ones. Her remarks serve as a reminder that sharing our stories gives us strength and that we are never really fighting this battle alone.
The book’s underlying message is one of hope, despite the undeniably weighty subject matter. Sharp’s will to transform her horror into a goal – a concrete, significant creation – serves as a reminder that even in our most dire circumstances, we can still develop and heal. In addition to demonstrating her inner strength, this collection serves as a lighthouse for others who may be going through the same or similar circumstances.
Through My Eyes: Mental Health Awareness is a lifeline for people who need to feel seen, understood, and encouraged; it is more than just a collection of poetry. Readers are blessed by Bianca Sharp’s bravery in sharing her tale, and her words will surely have an enduring effect. This compilation is a must-read if you’re searching for a book that highlights the resilience of the human spirit.
