A Journey to the Heart of Kumari: Guardians of a Secret Legacy

by Kimberly Ann Nayampalli

Kimberly Ann Nayampalli’s A Journey to the Heart of Kumari: Guardians of a Secret Legacy is a remarkable journey that combines mythology, history, and stunning scenery into an engrossing novel. A power that lures Harrison Sharma and the reader into a world of ancient mysteries, hidden dangers, and an unbreakable destiny is evident from the first time he sets foot in Kathmandu.

It opens with a beautiful letter to the reader that you should be sure not to skip. It helps set the stage for what you’re about to read and brings you closer to the author and their journey into writing it and what they hope we get from it.

Harrison initially wants nothing more than to put up with what he believes will be a routine family trip. Nepal, however, has other ideas for him. A living goddess, an old scroll, or a legend encircling an enigmatic crimson gem are just a few examples of the various ways that fate talks. Harrison is thrown into a risky journey as the past beckons for him, one that tests his perceptions of the world, his family, and himself.

The worldbuilding in this book is what really sets it apart. The in-depth descriptions of Nepal really draw you into the story, transporting readers from the bustling streets of Kathmandu to the untamed woods of Chitwan.

Through the vivid prose, you can almost hear the distant sounds of prayer wheels spinning and smell the incense coming from temple courtyards. It’s a story that puts you there completely, and I found myself immersed in it and excited to turn every page.

A Journey to the Heart of Kumari is a brilliant fusion of intrigue, familial ties, and cultural nuance that goes beyond its breathtaking setting. The dynamics of the Sharma family, from Harrison’s early resistance to his eventual metamorphosis as he faces forces beyond his comprehension, seem incredibly real. I love how the book explores Nepali mythology and it brings in a lot of legendary and personal states that keep you hooked.

This story has a lot of adventure, but it’s also about fate, bravery and the thin line that sometimes separates truth from deception. I loved the characters and found them relatable. I wanted to root for Harrison throughout the whole journey.

The cliffhanger that leaves you itching for the sequel is the result of the skillful building of suspense. And while I am eager to read the next book, I did feel this was a complete book with a satisfying ending, even with the cliffhanger.

A Journey to the Heart of Kumari is the perfect novel for people who want fast-paced, culturally rich adventures with very relatable characters. If you like books that blend mythology, action, and self-discovery, you should definitely read this. I can’t wait to see where the next installment takes us!

It was a 5-star read for me!
