Colorblind Love – Book Review

by Jamie Isabella Carter

Jamie Isabella Carter’s Colorblind Love is a book that successfully conveys the complex relationship between love, vulnerability, and self-acceptance. We are taken on an emotional journey via this endearing and profoundly affecting story, which examines love beyond sight, trust beyond words, and the bravery required to accept both.

I was so happy to receive a review copy of this book to explore and share my thoughts with you here. I was intrigued by the cover and called in by the description of the book, and I have to say, I was not disappointed.

The tagline pulled me in as so relatable: She longed for love but feared being truly seen…

This heartwarming romance is absolutely worth the read. Let’s dive into my spoiler-free review so I can tell you why I enjoyed it and why I think you should read it, too.

Although Rachel is a confident, independent, and successful woman, she has long-standing anxieties about her blindness that keep her from being really honest with herself. I found this part of the story very relatable and I think many of you will feel the same.

She is always pushed away from love by her dread of being judged for her differences. And the book highlights some real issues that many people face in the dating world today. This line highlights this, “Dating apps can really be daunting for most people. But for a blind woman like Rachel, it felt more terrifying as it meant opening herself up to the world that often overlook people like her.”

Rachel is drawn to James in ways she never would have thought possible, and he is patient and compassionate. There is no denying their connection, but will she allow her obstacles to prevent her from finding the love she has always desired, or will she truly allow him to see all of her flaws, uncertainties, and fears?

It is so vulnerable to open ourselves to love and to allow others to love us. This is especially scary when you are someone with disabilities. This book highlights those obstacles and takes us through every phase of finding love, and it’s a beautiful journey.

Rachel’s world is wonderfully brought to life by Carter’s evocative and fascinating storytelling, which is both profoundly touching and educational. The novel’s deep emotional depth and excellent character development make Rachel and James feel relatable and authentic. They never seem forced or too theatrical in their journey through attraction, uncertainty, confrontation, and reconciliation.

Thoughtful writing steers clear of cliches and produces an engaging and motivational romance. I loved the down-to-earth writing that feels like hearing a story from a close friend. The dialogue was natural, and the characters feel real and multi-dimensional.

I absolutely LOVE the disability rep – and we need so much more of this from romance. The author, having disability herself, writes with authenticity that is so needed in the genre. She says, “I believe in the power of love and beauty that transcends disability, showing that true connections know no limits.” And this book does exactly that.

Colorblind Love pushes readers to accept the emotional and spiritual ties that characterize true love and to see behind the material. The difficulties of overcoming one’s own obstacles and learning to view the world from another person’s point of view are masterfully portrayed in the book.

This book is a must-read for anybody who enjoys deep and meaningful contemporary romance. Colorblind Love excels in all aspects, whether you are interested in tales of tenacity, love despite adversity, or just a well-written romance. Jamie Isabella Carter has written a book that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading it. It is evidence that love, in its purest form, knows no bounds.
