The Gospel of Poetic Frolic – Book Review

As many of you already know, I love poetry! So I was really excited to get a review copy of this poetry book by Sergio Melicio de Bel. This is the first edition of The Gospel of Poetic Frolic, Darkness & Romance. And it is packed with such moving poetry and prose, I didn’t want to put it down! This is definitely one I would read more than once.

From the start, you will see a robust Table of Contents that highlights all of the great content inside, and makes it easier to navigate to a specific piece you want to come back and re-read later. And if you’re like me, you will definitely want to re-read some of these.

I found myself thinking of many of them long after I had set the book aside. And they had me reflecting on many aspects of life, love, and the world around me. There’s also really beautiful art in between.

One of my favorites was “In Between Waves: On the Trial of Light and Shadow Within”. I really love the reflection on the balance of it all. I also really liked “Dancing On My Funeral”. Lines like “If this is my funeral, you are the one who makes it holy” really resonated and stuck with me.

There’s so much to dive into here and I don’t want to spoil it for you because part of the message is how it resonates with you, what it brings up for you, and how you carry the words with you after. But it’s absolutely a must-read for anyone who loves deep works, modern poetry that is timeless, and the gift of the written and spoken word.

I also really loved “Daily Poetic Thoughts” which is a collection of various shorter poems. Highlights include lines like “I once wore my body like a borrowed suit”.

I loved this book so much and I cannot wait for the next one! Highly recommend. This needs to be a part of your collection.
