Thomas Moore – Author Spotlight

Thomas Moore is a debut novelist from Portsmouth with deep family roots in Wigan and a lifelong connection to rugby league. Despite being diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Thomas has turned his challenges into motivation, using storytelling as a way to give voice to working-class grit, resilience, and belief.

His first novel, Against the Lines, is a raw and emotional journey set against the backdrop of rugby and council estate life, a story of struggle, strength, and the power of second chances. Thomas writes to inspire those who’ve ever been underestimated, proving that your background or barriers don’t define your future, your drive does.

From the author:

I love being able to write any world, any possibility, any outcome. You’re able to design anything or anywhere. Just by putting ink on a page.

Why You’ll Love This Story:

1. Grit Meets Heart Tom Moore isn’t a superhero — he’s real. A young lad from the estates trying to outrun the shadows of his past and make something of himself. His journey is raw, emotional, and deeply human.

2. A Powerful Underdog Tale From council flats to the Grand Final, this is a classic working-class underdog story — but with modern-day stakes, pressure, and heartbreak.

3. Authentic Northern Voice Set in Wigan, the novel captures the soul of northern England: loyalty, hardship, dark humour, and community. It’s not polished — it’s real.

4. Rugby League, but So Much More You don’t need to love rugby to fall into this story. It’s about resilience, brotherhood, and what it means to fight for your future.

5. Love, Loyalty & Redemption Whether it’s Tom’s fierce love for his mum, the girl who believes in him, or the choices he has to make when things turn dark — the emotional weight hits hard.
