A Spellbinding Dive into Urban Fantasy – “The Seven Hungers: Crimson King”

by Morgan Quaid

There’s a certain kind of charm to a book that embraces the dark, eerie underbelly of fantasy. And I’m absolutely here for it!

This urban fantasy blends magic, terror, and heartrending human drama to a head in this edge-of-your-seat thriller. The protagonist of the story, Ambrose Drake, is as endearing as he is flawed – a sorcerer stripped of his magical status, exiled to the hustle and bustle of London, and later called upon to save humanity from a perilous demon king from the Third Hunger.

I was instantly drawn in to learn more about these Hungers and also the people in this universe and the powers they have. And I’m a sucker for a main character with a troubled past!

Enter more drama as Drake’s ex gets mixed up in things, his former lover and betrayer, Agent Karen Winter. And then there’s a rookie apprentice struggling with his magic and we have a hilarious smorgasbord of engaging characters, each with their own personal battles to overcome.

The author has breathed life into a unique, magical fantasy world that will captivate you from the first chapter. In addition to the relatable characters, we have a world beneath our world – housing the Seven Hungers. Quaid paints a vivid picture of these unique realms, filled with nightmarish and fascinating creatures.

The writing style is brisk and engaging, detailed, and immersive. Each chapter leaves you itching to find out what happens next. The blend of gut-wrenching horror, hard-hitting action, snappy dialogues, and biting wit makes for an absorbing reading experience that is simultaneously thrilling and thought-provoking. It’s an A+ from me and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this fantasy series.

If you’re a fan of Brad Magnarella, Shayne Silvers, or M.D. Massy, you’ll find this riveting thriller.

Blurb:

“Ten years since the Crown pulled my sorcerer’s credentials and exiled me to London. Now a demon king from the third hunger is threatening our world, and the Crown has come knocking on my door. Time to save the world again, but first, I need a shower.”

Censured Crown sorcerer Ambrose Drake is hired to investigate a bizarre emergence in a city halfway across the world from his native London. Drake soon learns that a being from one of the Seven Hungers beneath our world is attempting to cross over. Flanked by his ex-lover and betrayer, Agent Karen Winter and a young acolyte with a severe lack of magical ability, Drake must plunge once more into the depths to save humanity.

The Seven Hungers is a fast-paced fantasy thriller which blends sorcery, horror elements and the exploration of dark new worlds with intense emotional struggle.
